Report: Following their 5-0 thumping of league rivals Toby last week confidence was sky high as they were looking for a cup giant-killing against Premier Division strugglers Galleywood. With Chingford at home and their form very much on the up, Galleywood would always find the trip to Wadham Lodge a tough task as they were desperate for any kind of win. Despite there being three leagues between the sides you would never have been be able to notice after the opening few minutes. Chingford settled the quicker of the two sides and were soon keeping possession where necessary and getting their two forwards into the game and looking threatening. At the other end the mistakes from earlier on in the season seem to have been erased and the Chingford defence was now looking solid and tough to break down. With just over 15 minutes played the home side took the lead as a ball was played out to the left which found Mignot and as the flying winger beat his marker and drove towards goal, he thumped the ball past the Galleywood keeper. The Division 3 side were ahead and it was exactly what they deserved. The first half continued in the same fashion, Chingford pressing hard but unable to find a decisive second. Five minutes before the break that second goal eventually came for the hosts, Matt Thompson playing a ball out from the back towards Clarke-Johnson and as the forward flicked on Kemar Thompson used his pace to get to the ball, and his finishing ability to calmly slot into the corner.
With the scoreline reading 2-0 to Athletic, the visitors were always going to come out fast and the half time break was their opportunity to change things and work out how they would pull themselves back into the game. Whatever was said seemed to work as for the first ten minutes of the second half, and for the first time in the match, the Chingford defence were being tested. They were standing up strong and repelling everything coming at them until the hour mark when a miss-hit throughball luckily found its way to their forward who drove home from ten yards and the game was back in the balance. Whereas earlier in the season Chingford may have folded and lost their lead nowadays they have a greater spirit and determination to win. This was shown as they began fighting even harder for possession and winning the majority of tackles and this hard work paid off as they stretched their lead thanks to a second goal from Kemar Thompson. The pacey forward worked some space and finished well from inside the area, and when Mignot added his second and Chingford's fourth, the game was sealed and it was the Third Division side who progressed to the next round of the cup.
