Report:

Chingford’s first ever game in the Essex Olympian League proved to be a lively and entertaining encounter with the home side just shading a fairly even and hard fought contest.
As the rain fell at kick off, Chingford started brightly but failed to settle into the game allowing Shenfield to have the best of the early exchanges and after a couple of missed chances they managed to convert a chance from a break away.
Chingford became more determined to get into the game and after a period of putting together some smart passing moves, Clifton picked up the ball around 30 yards out and unleashed a powerful dipping shot that left the opposing goalkeeper with no chance. The determination to win the game from Chingford was then evident as Ulasan plucked a cross from a shenfield corner out of the air and releasing Centre Back Woolnough, who produced a lung-busting run which covered the entire pitch beating the Shenfield defence with his pace; he then put over a cross for K.Thompson who narrowly failed to connect with a diving header. Chingford were then in the ascendency and started to create chance after chance; after a slick passing move, K Thompson was played in behind the Shenfield defence and produced a low drive into the bottom right hand corner. As Shenfield started to attack Chingford, Chingford started to counter attack and on 40 mins a quick counter played in K.Thompson again to produce another poacher’s finish to leave Chingford 3-1 up at the break.

Chingford kicked off the second half and from the off they seemed shaky and this was maybe due to the fact they were determined not to throw away their lead, Shenfield started to throw men forward but the Chingford defence again stood firm. On 60 minutes, Shenfield were allowed the time to take a quick throw and delivered a cross which deflected off a Chingford defender and into the path of a Shenfield striker to slot home from 8 yards.
The goal conceded seemed to kick start Chingford into playing their own passing game of football again and on 70 minutes K Thompson, picked up the ball on the right and dribbled into the area where he finished from an impossible angle, therefore completing his hat-trick and proving he is going to be one of the most feared strikers in the entire Essex Olympian League.
Shenfield responded by throwing on a ‘big man’ up front and they proceeded to supply long balls to which the Chingford defence managed to deal with until the 80th minute when a goal mouth scramble involving two saves from Ulasan and excellent blocks from McPherson lead to a goal from Shenfield who finally managed to bundle the ball over the line.
On 85 minutes, Maduro produced a great run into the opposing area when he was tackled. As Maduro fell to the ground he dislocated his shoulder and the game was held up for 10 minutes whilst he received treatment. Chingford managed to hold out for a thrilling 4-3 win and firmly establishing themselves in their new league and uncovered a new star striker in K.Thompson.
