Report:
On a cold January afternoon Chingford made the trip to Lakeside looking for a repeat of their early season 4-1 win, however on a boggy pitch both teams played out a scrappy 1-1 draw.
The game started quite brightly for Chingford with Lakeside only starting the game with 10 men as their 11th player was running late and drunk, Chingford although not playing their best football still managed to carve out chances with the impressive Mignot and Middleweek on the wings getting behind the opposing defence. The best of the early exchanges fell to Collins from a cross from Middleweek on the left, however on target Collins header was dealt with by the Lakeside keeper. The game became very scrappy with both teams unable to play and real football on the boggy surface, then the scrappy nature of the game was summed up when Kemar shot at goal on for the shot to be cleared straight back at him with the ball ricocheting into the Lakeside net.
Both sides produced further chances but nothing of real note, with Chingford just shading the game and creating the slightly better of the chances. The teams went in at half time with the scoreline 1-0 to Chingford.
The second half was also a scrappy affair with Lakeside starting to put more emphasis on attack which opened up the game for both side, Chingford began to find more space and create further opportunities but Lakeside also were creating chances of their own and Chingford were saved on more than one occasion with Morleys superb goalkeeping. Chingford then tried to relieve the pressure that Lakeside were no applying by making two changes with Bowers and Alderman coming on. Bowers came on and made an instant impact by getting his foot and head into challenges in midfield and provided some much need steel and Alderman providing more pace and movement on the wing. A succession of chances then went begging for Chingford with Thompson, Middleweek an excellent run from Mignot all going close, however the miss of the match came from their Captain Woolnough, after charging the length of the field to get involved in the attack he managed to blaze over the bar from 6 yards after a great pass from K.Thompson.
The previous misses then made what happened next even worse with Lakeside grabbing a goal that was clearly offside, a ball to the lakeside striker on the left got behind the Chingford defence, then with the on rushing Morley closing the angle a ball was played to another Lakeside player whom was standing behind the keeper on the goal-line in an offside position and slotted home . In the remaining 10 minutes Chingford had another 3 good chances with McPherson going close with a header and Middleweek shooting straight at the keeper.
All in all a poor game and although slightly the better team; Chingfords finishing meant that a draw was a fair result in the end. After the early season excitement of a possible league title, Chingfords players must now individually look at themselves and want the pride of finishing in the top 3 come the end of the season; which means big performance for the last 5 games starting with revenge against Stambridge this Saturday.
